The Problem
A homeowner in Woking was having their kitchen refitted and needed a qualified plumber to install their new sink and tap. The old stainless steel sink had been removed by the kitchen fitters, and a new 1.5 bowl undermount granite composite sink was to be installed in a new worktop.
The new sink required different waste fittings and a new monobloc tap with a pull-out spray, which needed connections to both hot and cold water supplies.
The Diagnosis
We assessed the new sink and worktop installation and confirmed the sink position and cutout were correct. The existing waste pipe needed extending to reach the new sink position, and the water supply pipes needed extending and new isolation valves fitted.
The undermount sink required a special mounting kit and silicone seal between the sink rim and the underside of the worktop. The new tap had flexible connectors that required 10mm isolation valves.
The Repair
We fitted the undermount sink to the underside of the worktop using the manufacturer's mounting kit and a continuous bead of sanitary silicone. The sink waste was fitted with a new flanged waste and a new bottle trap, connected to the extended waste pipe with the correct fall.
The new monobloc tap was fitted through the worktop, connected to new isolation valves and flexible connectors on the hot and cold supplies. The sink was tested for drainage and the tap was tested for flow and temperature mixing.
Fitted undermount sink with mounting kit and silicone
Installed waste, trap and extended waste pipe
Fitted new tap and connected water supplies
Outcome & Advice to the Homeowner
The new kitchen sink and tap were installed to a high standard. The undermount sink looked excellent against the new worktop, and the pull-out spray tap worked perfectly. The homeowner was very happy with the finished kitchen.
We recommended not using the sink for 24 hours to allow the silicone seal to fully cure, and advised cleaning the granite composite sink regularly with a non-abrasive cleaner to prevent staining.
