The Problem
A homeowner in Addlestone wanted to replace a kitchen tap that had been dripping for months. The tap had been repaired twice by the homeowner with new washers, but the leak kept returning. The chrome finish on the tap was also pitted and stained with limescale.
The homeowner wanted a pull-out spray mixer tap to replace the existing monobloc tap. The sink was a stainless steel 1.5 bowl kitchen sink with a single tap hole.
The Diagnosis
We confirmed the existing tap was beyond economical repair — the valve seat had been worn and re-cut twice, and each repair lasted only weeks. The body of the tap had microscopic stress fractures from years of use. A replacement was the correct solution.
The water pressure at the kitchen was good — 2.5 bar measured at the isolation valve — which was suitable for a pull-out spray mixer tap that requires a minimum of 1.0 bar. The existing flexi-tails were 10mm which was adequate for the new tap.
The Repair
We isolated the hot and cold water supplies via the isolation valves, disconnected the old tap flexi-tails, and removed the old tap from the sink. The tap hole was cleaned and the sink surface inspected for any damage.
The new pull-out spray mixer tap was fitted with new flexi-tails and a new sealing O-ring. The tap was secured from beneath, connected to the isolation valves, and commissioned. The pull-out spray mechanism was tested for smooth retraction and the spray pattern was checked.

Fitted new pull-out spray mixer tap
Commissioned and tested spray mechanism
Outcome & Advice to the Homeowner
The new kitchen tap was installed and working perfectly. The homeowner was delighted with the pull-out spray function, which made cleaning the sink and filling pots much easier. The drip was permanently resolved.
We recommended wiping the tap dry after use to prevent limescale build-up on the chrome finish, particularly given the hard water in the Addlestone area.
